FAQ: What can I do to make the adhesive tape bond faster?

What you may be hoping to reduce is called Dwell Time. That’s how long the adhesive needs to be left in place before being ready for testing or use.
As a rule of thumb, the length of time needed is based on both testing room temps and application pressure. Be sure to check your product spec sheet to see what is suggested as the overall time required to achieve full strength.
After application, the bond strength of most adhesives will increase as the adhesive flows onto the surface. At room temperature, and without acceleration techniques, here's how long it takes on average:
- 50% of the ultimate strength will be achieved after 20 minutes
- 90% after 24 hours
- 100% after 72 hours.
In some cases, bond strength can be increased and ultimate bond strength can be achieved more quickly by exposure of the bond to elevated temperatures (e.g. 150°F [66°C] for 1 hour).
